Re: [NC] simmons mullatoes north carolina
In Response To: [NC] simmons mullatoes north carolina ()
Hello Tee: I can't provide you with a direct answer to your question, but with some supplemental data from you, perhaps I may be of some help. One of the famiies I'm researching is the Simmons family who migrated from Virginia or North Carolina. I don't know whether York Simmons, born in 1762 came from because part of North Carolina was once Virginia. In other words, the county where York lived prior to migrating to Ohio was on the borderline of the two states of Virginia and North Carolina. On the census in Ohio, he was listed as a mulatto, which as you might have read on this web site has been used for various classes if races, mainly, a person of light complexion or according to how the enumerator of said census was thinking. I don't wish to continue in this vein. However, if you have a given name for a specific person you are looking for, I will be glad to check it against those names in my inventory to see if it is included.
