William Davis, colored, born abt 1814/7 listed in the 1843 Antrim Tax list, owning 11 acres, 1850 Fed. Census, William, wife Mildred Brand from Virginia, sons: Joseph B and James B. It is believed that the Davis are linked to the White Davis family, but not proven. William's father or grandfather was single and had 3 children with his African Slave. Mildred Brand's brother is John/James married to a Helman, also colored from Franklin County. The Davis sold their property for $1,000 and headed to Ohio in 1858 (sold to Rev. Coursey, United Brethern Church), purchased 11 acres in Medina Oh, sold this property and arrived in Benzie Co. Michigan, homesteading 160 acres in 1863 and son Joseph also homesteading 160 acres. son Joseph married Mary Belle Imes, also colored from Franklin County. We are not sure where they married. Mary Belle's brother David also went to Benzie County Mich. If anyone can shed light and add to this information, it is welcomed. Thank you, Shelley
