[LA] University of Toronto:LA Sugar Harvest
Interesting link to the University of Toronto's "Centre for the Study of the United States" site.
The LA Sugar Census compiles data from several (South) Louisiana parishes - including plantations, owners and/or overseers. "Absentee owners" were fairly common in the deep south; Tom Blake's 'Large Slaveholders site", along with the "Records of Antebellum Plantations...", the "Slave Narratives", The Civil War pension records , the Freedman's Bureau records and the 1870 Census give us an excellent starting point in locating the last slaveholder.
The site is incomplete and 'a work in progress', but it has the potential to be another great resource for linking slaveholders with their known plantations. Hopefully, the "Centre" will expand their research into other southern states.
