Re: [AL] Snow Hill Institute
In Response To: Re: [AL] Snow Hill Institute ()
I am from snow hill, graduating from snow hill institute in the class of 1968. my born name was booker t. carmichael, the last name being the patrilineal name of mr. edwards' family. the original carmichael were mike and phoebe. i am a member of the fifth generation of the carmichael family.
as a child growing up in snow hill, as i can recall, there was a family name House. one of them live in california today. he is an extremely intelligent black man.
my uncle, waverly turner carmichael wrote the snow hill institute school song. he also studied at harvard university where he published a book of poems. my father also lived there in boston and attended the new england conservatory school of music. he was a violnist and published his own magazine, The Black Bards. their brother, patrick carmichael, founded his own school modeled after snow hill named Perdue hill institute. so all of this attest to the glorious contribution snow hill made to the early education of black america. with the rapid deteriation of black youth today, especially males, much could be learn from the example of snow to rectrify these numerous social ills among our people. love, peace and power--- ali
