[GA] SPEED in Dougherty, Wilkes, or Elbert Co.
I am interested in any information pertaining to Lawrence SPEED, a Freedman, found in Dougherty County, GA, in 1866. Speed was instrumental in organizing freed African-Americans in southwest Georga. He remained in Dougherty for a time, but moved on to AL, probably in the early 1870s. Speed is believed to have come to Dougherty Co. from Wilkes Co., GA. Any information about Lawrence Speed or his family--or any SPEED--in Wilkes/Elbert County, in GA, up until 1866, when it is apprent he moved from Wilkes, will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Annette
