I've been stuck at a brick wall for about two years now concerning
the LeJay family of Louisiana. my great-grandmother was Sylvia LeJay
Gines (1863-- 1940). Her mother's name was Syntrilla Brayboy LeJay,
and I believe her father's name was Lewis LeJay. They lived in Caddo
and DeSoto parishes. but I can't find many more members of this
family in Louisiana Census records or other records. Before 1930,
there seem to be only 10 or 15 members of this family in Louisiana.
The census records indicate that te family probably came from South
Carolina. But the only record of the family I find in South Carolina
dates back to 1685, when a Huguenot family headed by Isaac LeJay was
granted 500 acres of land near Charleston. So there's a big gap
between South Carolina in 1685 and Louisiana in about 1835.
Does anyone know anything about this family or have any suggestions?
