Black history: The Black History Committee Friends of the Thomas Balch Library invites you to the Thomas Balch Library on June 24, 2 p.m., in Leesburg for the first in a series of talks on African-American history, "Updating Our History." Guest speaker Lemoine Pierce will speak about George Washington Carver, the scientist, artist and musician, and Billy Pierce, a native son of Purcellville and dance master in New York. Yard sale: Reginald Simms, of Purcellville, is asking you to gather your yard-sale goodies for the Loudoun Douglass Alumni Association's yard sale on Saturday, June 10, starting at 8 a.m. at the Douglass Community School in Leesburg. Reginald will pick up donations if you call him at 540-338-2370.
Rally Day: Rally Day services will be at the First Baptist Church of Sycolin Sunday, June 11 at 3 p.m. The Rev. Herbert C. Love will be guest minister.
Art show: Go to the Arts in the Alley festival on June 10, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on 21st Street between Main Street and the Train Station in Purcellville. Admission is free. Ray Hart will be one of the artists showing some of his black art.
Pastor's aid: Don't forget the Pastor's Aid program at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Middleburg Sunday, June 10 at 3 p.m. The Rev. Elton Wilson of the Mount Zion Baptist Church, St. Louis/Middleburg, will be guest preacher.
