If you are researching a county in VA - be sure to explore that counties pages, as well as the links to neighboring counties.

Also - be sure to read the county history - so that you know when the boundaries changed, or when the county was formed. Once you get back before 1865 - you will need to know what county to look for records in - and even though your family may have been found living in one county in 1870 - they may have been in a different county earlier on.
