My 2nd great-grandparents Sam & Ermeline MITCHELL migrated (in their late 60’s) with their adult children and families from Sumter Co, SC to Gainesville, FL in the early 1900’s. In the surrounding census pages in 1910, I find others from SC, some of the names traceable to Sumter Co. I’d like to commmunicate with others whose family members migrated there as well. In addition to seeking possible relatives, I am currently researching the reasons for this migration – the specific forces that may have enticed them to leave Sumter Co, SC and the factors that made Gainesville attractive. I’d love to chat with any others whose ancestors did the same.
