Re: How Are the Plans?
In Response To: How Are the Plans? ()
This is my first post on this board. I'm currently chairing the planning my first Wilhoite-Fortune-Taylor-Williams family reunion which is to be held in 2007. We first started planning back in Sep 2006 and so far things are moving along okay. It will be a big one and I'm excited.
It's funny that you should mention how the hotels are realizing that the family reunion is a big source of business for them. Our accomodation committee is having to wait approx 1 year prior to reunion date before being able to make reservations. Is this common? We'd really like to have a solid place right now. Have you or anyone experienced this?
The only other challenges that I've faced so far is setting up the committee meeting as far as attendance goes. Everyone is understandably busy but that is getting better.
Another challenge that I'm just now experiencing is a fundraiser turnout. We have an upcoming bowling fundraiser and so far no financial commitment but a lot of YESes where interest goes. :-/ I am afraid that I will have to cancel reservation of bowling lanes if no one financially commits. :-(
BUT...we're still at the beginning of our planning and I am hopeful for future fundraiser endeavors. hehe
Right now, I am truly excited with researching my family's history. A lot of our history has been researched in the past but I've been encountering new discoveries. It is all very exciting.
Thanks for listening. I hope to stick around during the entire planning process.
