Family Reunion Forum
Ok...let's try a little reunion humor. What's one of your favorite reunion humorous stories...something that happened at the reunion or during the planning of the reunion that was hilarious.
I don't know if this will fit, but I laugh at it now. When it happened, I wasn't laughing.
Well, during the planning stages of a past reunion, the reunion committee was seeking a person to be the speaker at the banquet. One of the committee members proudly nominated her brother, who was known to be a VERY good motivational speaker in the city where he lived. Also, since he was a young guy, the committee thought it would be great to ask him to speak at the banquet...nothing long, just a few words. This would have been great for the young generation to see one of their own as the speaker. The committee was excited about the possibility.
Well, the chairperson called this particular cousin to see if he would do it. We were hopeful that he wouldn't turn us down, as his branch of the family tree attended the reunion regularly, even though he never attended. Well, when my cousin called, he wasn't at home, but she left the info on his voice recording as well as her e-mail address and phone number. Well, this cousin got back in touch with her via e-mail.
My cousin forwarded his e-mail to me. This cousin was indeed honored, so he said, that the committee thought of him. Good. Well, in the e-mail, he goes on to explain his FEE for speaking at the reunion....HIS family reunion I may add. I think it was something like $1,000 plus hotel fees, as well as expenses for meals and such during the 3-day weekend and also transportation expenses for him to get there. I was in awe! I could not believe it. How could a family member stick a huge bill to his own family to speak at his own family's reunion??? In the past, we've offered the banquet speakers, who have all been family members, a little "token" of appreciation, but they would not accept it. Now..we got this one Cuz who wanted to charge us $1,000 plus expenses! My cousin kindly rejected his offer with the quickness!
At the time, it wasn't funny, but now I can sit back and laugh at this. This cousin still has never attended the reunion. Maybe he's too ashamed at what he did? I don't know, but he should be, in my book!
