Re: Using Photos For Family Reunions

Another suggestion for family pictures--I carry a camera to take pictures of family members now for my future projects--such as the computer program I have allows you to attach faces to the pedigree chart. Have you ever looked at these names and wonder what did they look like or who do 'you favor'. I am scanning pictures of 'nothing but smiling members', for the pedigree chart. We all know how hard it is to get copies of the 'very old pictures'. And sometimes it's even harder to get someone to go to a store with you to duplicate. All scanners aren't 'created equal', and when you print out a picture at home the quality isn't always good. So now I've really gotten into my pocket. When I get a roll developed--I get prints and CD. As a backup I save all pictures on my Computer. It may be a lot, but if by some coincidence the CD or prints come up missing -the computer has it. You have to do everything possible to 'save our past. One other thing if someone wants a copy --I email them one. I also scann and save documents
I find that is confirmed information about our ancestors. Each year I add one of these to the family reunion booklet. An ex. -a copy of a indenture contract for 2 grgr Uncles. Family members can get an idea of what it took to live and farm during that era. I want as many family members to be interested in where they came from and not feel that as one of them said' they are just a bunch of old people'.
