Two to three through the mail (smile). Our family meets every other year and always in summer so we can include the kids while they're out for summer vacation.
The first mailing usually goes out before Thanksgiving the previous year. Everyone has large gatherings for Thanksgiving and we want them talking about the Reunion when they meet (smile). A second letter will go out in the mail no later than April as we usually meet in June or July.
We've also discovered the great savings with sending a post card. These can be really cute and hit the high points and they make great keepsakes. If we send a post card we'll usually fit it in between the two letters. Of course we send out emails like crazy as the time approaches and keep a time clock on our family website which counts down the days.
A Family Reunion needs to be marketed like any other large event to keep excitement up and it's an inexpensive way to send out little notices about raffles, contests and other fun events to keep everyone in the mood.
We even try to find someone from each state that will get in their cars and go to pick up money for tickets. This works very nicely especially for seniors and allows us to spread the word in person to those not on the Internet.
If you want them there and want a big turn-out, pull out all the stops. We usually have an attendance anywhere from 200 - 300 people. We're hoping for 400 this year. Say a prayer for us!
