Family Reunion Forum
Not A Reunion, but.........
This past Saturday (4 Jul) I had the opportunity to attend a family gathering at the home of one of my wife's nephews. There were about 40 people present...two of my wife's sisters, the children of those sisters and many grandchildren with even a couple of great-grandchildren.
I took my laptop, flash drive and digital camera. The flash drive has on it the "portable Roots Magic 4" program with which I was able to update on the spot with "new" data and pictures taken at the "gathering". We have documented my wife's (and sisters) family lines dating back 1749 in Prince George County, MD.
They (family) was thrilled to see their indiviual charts going back to those early ancestors and especially those we had pictures of on the charts and how they related to each other.
One of my sister-in-law's granddaughters is expecting and due to give birth in early August, so we were able to show 10 generations of genealogy with hopefully a new member soon to be added to that 10th generation in time for their big Family Reunion coming up in late August.
The idea of laptop, camera and flash drive could work out great at the family reunion. The ability to get photos, update your "trees" and transfer that data to others instantaneously is a wonderful example of caring and sharing.
Thanks for letting me share this experience with you.
p.s. Surnames in my wife's "direct" ancestral lines are Harvey, Dalton, Adams, Barnett, Parsons, Honesty, McPherson, Bowles & Mateny.
