Re: Losing Attendance

Our reunion isn't even held in the same place every year and the life was sucked out of it a long time ago.
I think the reasons are many and varied, starting with we don't need to meet every year. Many of us have been arguing that we should go to every other year but we always get the same argument, "somebody might die."
Some of the other issues with ours are, it's too formal (we always have a banquet with speaker), no activities for the younger generation, it's very cliquish and certain ones of the older generation always seem to be causing some kind of tunrmoil when things don't go their way.
Also, my maternal granddad's side of the family started the reunion back in the early 60s. Somewhere along the way, somebody decided to start including my grandmother's side of the family and it was like my granddad's side got kicked to the curb.
What's ironic is that in the past 10 years, the best reunion that I've been to is one that a cousin on granddad's side put together. It was a one day event and there was more mingling and getting to know family in that one day that all the years of the more formal event.
