Family Reunion Forum

Hope I don't bore u all to tears with this, but I would like to share this with you, it's an idea that might appeal to someone other than myself. Does anyone have landmarks for their family reunions? I like to think that my fmily is unique, but judging from this forum we are a very long way from being that. My family have what we call, Standard Procedures and Rules (SPR) Every reunion committee gets a copy. It's a sort of a by-laws governing the reunions. There are things that can and cannot be done for each reunion. This has cut down on a lot of hurt feelings and arguments from various family members. Anyone that has a question about the reunions how, when, where or why can request a copy of the SPR or bylaws. We started this because at our very first reunion we had some family members that didnot agree as to how the money was spent because we didnot buy any alcohol for the picnic. Hense, our first rule was that no reunion money would be spent on alcoholic beverages. As the years went on we added things that were beneficial to all to keep down disagreements and confusion. Our family 'Landmarks' cannot be changed without a vote, they are; our family theme, "A Family That Prays Together, Stays Together; scriptures we have three, Job 42:16, Psalms 133:1 and Genesis 17:8 and a slogans "It's A Family THANG, Altogether as One. Host committees have the option to choose their own local theme, which they usuall put on their t-shirts, but all the written literature MUST include the Landmarks. We are decended from a minister, therefore, when the reunion was started the senior members of the family that could vaguely remember Rev. Byrd Travis insisted that we start the reunion in church. Now we always end the reunion in church in his memory. OK now that I've written a book on my family reunion, I'll stop here. Sorry this is so long, I could go on for days and sometimes I do if anyone will listen
