Reunion Planners, You Know God Is In Control!
I'm over here laughing at the multitudes of posts I see on the board about folks sending their money late in for reunions. I am going through the same thing right as we speak! I am writing this message to give us all, including me, perspective on how our families are and the fact that there is nothing we could do to change other folks. **Laughs**
Here are the facts:
Our reunion is August 1-5, 2007.
It's our 17th reunion and the third in CA. Our reunions happen every 2 years.
We sent out three mailings specifically for the reunion; one in December 2006 (with approximate costs), one in April 2007 (with exact costs) and one in May 2007 (with exact costs). We sent out 170 letters each time, meaning that the average person got contacted at least three times about the same event. In addition, "save the date" notices were printed in the family newsletters that are sent out by e-mail and by mail to over 200 people in Fall 2005 and Winter 2006. So, in essence, a family member has been contacted at least FIVE TIMES regarding our reunion in the last two years.
Family members were given rental car and airfare discount information via mail and e-mail. I e-mailed and/or called at least 20 family members regarding discounted rates of airfare that I searched for on their behalf on my own time.
Our contacts database has 240 contacts. Our e-mail list as over 150 individual people.
I know there are more than 600 living people in the family file.
I want you to guess how many registrations, out of all those people, I have received PRIOR to the due date of June 25.
200? Nope. Keep guessing
150? Nope, guess again
100? You're wrong.
To date, we've received a little over 60, YES 60, paid registrations for our reunion.
If local people show up, that number could be pushed to over 100 people. What is sad is that the local people aren't responding, and these are people that I see way more often than those who have sent in money. About half of the 60 who have paid live out of the state of CA.
People have known for at least TWO YEARS where the reunion is going to be and who the chairperson is.
We started planning for the reunion in October 2005, which was two months after the last one.
We have had a hotel contract since August 2006. Out of the 40 room block that we got, only 18, YES 18 rooms have been booked as of yesterday.
So, why do I type all of this? I want to remind me and you that the Lord is going to honor whatever we do if it's done with the right intentions. While we may not get the 200 people we hope for at our reunions, the reason why we have them is not for business purposes. We have it so that we can keep our connection. If one person's life gets changed because of our reunion, all the planning and stress is well worth it.
We all made it a point to give it our all to make our reunions a success and they will be. The committee and I (as well as you all) did all we could to ensure we'd get as many people as possible to come and that is one most important thing to realize.
Don't lose heart!!! Your efforts will be recognized!
