PETTIFORD FAMILY REUNION
![]() The Pettiford family is very large and is connected by many branchs. I am a descendant of Edmund Pettiford a free person of color from North Carolina. Edmund and several of his family members migrated to the midwest and settled in Indiana around 1850. The town of Weaver, Indiana and Marion , Indiana is populated by Pettifords, Burdens, Weavers, Shoecrafts, Jones, Smith,Stewarts, Fouces, and Evans all of whom are interelated. We have a hugh reunion every year since 1919 on the third Sunday in August. Our family reunion was founded by Joseph and Martha Weaver Pettiford the parents of 18 children which included my grandmother Orinda Pettiford Miller. I grew up going to the family reunion every year. I always knew that not matter where I was in the world that on the third Sunday in August I had to be in Indiana for the Pettiford family reunion. That goes for my children and now my grandchildren . Reunions are so important to families maintaining there link to the past while facing the challenges of the future togehter. Over twenty years ago I started doing the family research and genealogy for the Pettiford-Weaver family and I discovered so many Pettiford that were related to our branch of the family. In 2002 we had a MEGA Reunion which gathered all of the Pettiford from all over the country in North Carolina. We had so much fun comparing notes and trying to put the pieces together of our family tree that we are doing it again this year. In Durham,North Carolina from August 11-14th we will gather again to celebrate the history of our family.
