Re: 1st Family Reuinion
In Response To: Re: 1st Family Reuinion ()

Angel, please don't get frustrated. I really envy you that thrill of anticipating the very 1st Family Reunion! I went to my first last yeat in August, Dallas, Texas and had the time of my life. I'd heard of a few of the older ones and most I'd seen only in census repots. I, too, like yourself had been doing all this research long before I even heard there would be a family reunion and when I did it seemed planned somehow as a venue for me to share what I'd learned so far.

Is there any family member that you know or perhaps that your Mother knows that will be attending as well? Why not try to reach that person and fill them with your excitement. It's worth a try. Take the research, believe me they'll appreciate it. Some will attempt to cross hairs and dot t's but the majority will fall on the information like flies on sugar, trust me.

I put all mine together in the form of a book, printed 105 copies, had them shipped there and went to the Fish Fry the night before the Big do. I talked the book up and met so many people. Took a single copy with me to Fish Fry and let it circulate the house. The next day I sold 85 copies! There were other family members there and each were provided with 6 ft. folding tables to share family memorabilia, products, etc. Can you believe that I still get requests for the book. Only wanted to cover my cost of printing and sold them for $23 but, they were a smash.

Please don't give up. It's like playing Big Whiz. If you can't come in the front door, go in the back door (smile). It'll be worth it. Can't wait to hear about your trip.

Take a Video Camera, please. You'll be glad you did.
