() We do all we can to get the next generation involved in WANTING to know about the past. It is in many instances a problem to do so. I don't know if you have done this but instead of having them listen to our ideas and reading about people they don't feel are important, we all must make a effort to LISTEN to what they want. Let them in their own time decide when to seek that knowledge and make sure everything is in place for the knowledge to be past on. It is really disheartening to see the next generation in my family look at me when that dumb spaced out look when I try to share information. The only time I've really noticed that the 'eyes' came into focus about ancestors is when someone on tv like Chris Rock and Oprah had their DNA done. I had done so 1 year before, with the same company African Ancestry, gave everyone(a copy of my letter) the results and got that 'glazed eye look'. TV brought it home and there are at least 2 more that are interested in ancestors. So Seniors, griots, whatever name you use, keep on keeping on and listen and let them OR the generation after that choose a time to know. We must save our past by any means possible.
