Family Reunion - Historical Displays & Spin-Offs

I'm forutnate enough to have a very creative cousin in my ADAMS Family line. This year (2006) our ADAMS Family had it's 86th consecutive annual family reunion.

My cousin has been the "backbone" of our histroical displays and has produced story boards, pamphlets, video tapes, calendars, etc. for the past 15-20 reunions.

This year her gift to the family was Bookmarkers in the form of name tags. One side had a short narrative on our oldest ADAMS ancestors Lewis & Susan ADAMS. Lewis and Susan were married in 1816 in Urbana, Champaign County, Ohio and they had 12 children, 10 reaching adulthod and having families. Each branch of the ADAMS family is descended from 1 of those 10 children. The reverse side had the names of those children (color-coded) and the space for "HI I'm (your name) and I'm a descendant of (ancestor's name).

We color-coded a 2005 display of the ADAMS Family tree to match the Bookmarks....about 1700 individuals.....(see photo) so a person could see exactly where in this family they and their ancestors fit.

From the Bookmark & Family Tree we generated a "Book", The Descendant Families of Lewis & Susan Adams.....The "book" consists of cover page, forward, dedication, copyright, table of contents, narrative genealogy report for 11 generations, ...each generation starts a new chapter...with some individual photos & documents and an index.

We now produce the complete "book" (256 pages) and can produce a subset for the descendants of each of the 10 children in PDF format which can be sent as an attachment, printed, and/or copied to a CD.
Proceeds from the sale of these materials go into the ADAMS Family Scholarship Fund.

This is a family money maker and a method of getting the genealogy out to a broader range of descendants. Hopefully they will review with interest and submit photos, documents, additions & corrections for annual updates. This is especially helpful to family members who are unable to attend the reunions, but want to keep up with the family genealogy.

Pretty proud of my cousin and what we're trying to do. A nice coffe table item
