Not sure if this had been posted before. When I saw Dawn's message, I remembered that Elizabeth Cann Kambourian had published a book in 1997 (Heritage Books), entitled The Freedmen's Bureau in Virgina - Names of Destitute Freedmen Dependent Upon the Government in the Military Districts of Virginia.
Reel 57 Records of the Asst Commissioner for the State of Va Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen, and Abandoned Lands 1865-1869
It includes names from the following Virginia Counties:
Fauquier, Prince William, Stafford, King George, Nansemond, Southampton, Northampton, Accomac, Princess Anne, Halifax, Greensville, Cumberland, Chesterfield, Charlotte, Buckingham, Brunswick, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway, City of Petersburg, Powhatan, Prince Edward, Prince George, Surry, City of Richmond, Henrico, Goochland, Greene, Fluvanna, Town of Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania, Frederick, Jefferson County (now WV); etc.....
Also includes lists of destitue freedmen in the following hospitals
Lynchburg, Amherst Courthouse, Lovington, Appomattox, Bedford Co., Howard Grove Hospital in Richmond.....
Some have many names others only a few.
