African American Newspapers Forum
Another AA Newspaper Digitized
A librarian from the Louisville Free Public Library learned that an early African American Louisville paper has been digitized by the University of Louisville; the Louisville Leader. It is an absolutely wonderful paper that covers a large portion of the first half of the 20th century. I am impressed with the quantity and variety of social/community columns, and the existence of In Memoriam entries. Correspondents submitting news cover numerous towns in the state, some over the border in Indiana, and a healthy dose of places well into Ohio.
It appears to be searchable, but the article discussing it states it is not proving accurate and welcomes help in transcribing.
