GenealogyBank.com Previews Halted
I am a paying subscriber to GenealogyBank.com. This past weekend I was on GenealogyBank, not logged in, doing a search as I have done many times before and to my dismay, it would not bring up the search results. I tried again today and I got the same negative response--it wanted me to log in, subscribe for a 30 day free trial, or sign up outright.
This marks a sad day for newspaper researchers. As you may remember, one of the effective research strategies I have talked about revolves around getting that little "clue" or "glimpse" from the results list to determine whether an article has a decent probability of being relative to your search. You can no longer make that determination, and that takes a powerful research technique out of your hands.
You may also remember, that I have said that the website is a very good value for your dollar. It has hundreds of black newspapers that can be searched--more than any other site. What I especially like, and what I hope continues, is how they allow current subscribers to take advantage of the specials they offer, in effect letting you extend/renew your subscription at a discounted rate.
