A question was brought up earlier this week by Art Thomas inquiring as to whether the correspondents who sent in news from their communities were paid for that work. I was leaning toward the opinion that they were not, but was not sure. However, I knew that I had seen advertisements seeking such correspondents in a few papers. Here is one from the Cleveland Gazette in 1911 and it seems as though they are offering compensation of some sort.
