Tom, thanks for posting excerpts from "Winners of the West."

A few years ago Harold Sayre, Fort Davis, Texas, and I reviewed numerous documents from the late 1800s and early 1900s related to the cavalry and infantry in the West, primarily on the black soldiers once stationed at Fort Davis - service records, pension records (depositions, affidavits, letters, etc.), and other official military records. Neither did we find the term "Buffalo Soldier" in any of the documents.
