Mr. Phillips: Thanks for your reply. I have a copy of your book, "The Black Regulars" and I would agree, that the writers were literate, but would still wonder about the degree of their education, whether formal or self taught. My point is; that I have always been amazed at the ; tenacity, bravery, survival skills and loyalty of these men in the face of continual predjudice and abuse by their Officers.
By the way; I said , ( referring to my Great Uncle, James H. Green ) "and probably shipped out to Cuba from there in 1898". I did not state that I know for certain that he did. That's what I'm searching for now. I will not be disappointed if he didn't make it to Cuba; since I know that all of his re-enlistment ratings were "excellent". Quite a feat!! Best regards, Lloyd
