State and local officials joined over 100 residents of the Hopewell Valley area under sunny skies Sunday afternoon for ceremonies honoring black Civil War veterans buried at Pennington's African Cemetery.

The cemetery, for which a deed was issued to six Pennington residents at the height of the Civil War, is on a secluded 1-acre lot in the southern section of the borough.
