Since answering this posting a few days ago, I came across what may be another piece. It was a very brief news article from late April 1865 that speaks of attacks on black families in Texas and troops moving in to evacuate them and protect them.

There is a good chance this may be related to your comment on the Chester piece about "marching orders to Texas." This is why it's so great that we share this information. Every tiny piece can build on another-and some day!! that gap in knowledge will be filled in. Thanks again
