Nina, It is highly recommended you follow Lee Cook's instructions. It is the best narrative I have ever read regarding USCT records research. For one possible shortcut to instructions, go to: http://www.bjmjr.com/military/index.htm Scroll down and click on "ACCESS TO MILITARY SERVICE AND PENSION RECORDS" and "ORDER FORMS FOR MILITARY SERVICE AND FAMILY HISTORY RECORDS" Photos of USCTs are very rare, however, I will check around to see what I can find out. If you get a chance to attend the USCT Weekend event at Camp Nelson, you will be able to meet and talk with Audrey Hinton. Audrey's ancestor and three of his brothers served in the 12th U. S. Colored Heavy Artillery, organized at Camp Nelson. Audrey gives a great presentation on the history of her ancestor and relatives as well as their slaveowner. In fact, she and her relatives have established contact with some descendants of the slaveowner. The following Saunders are resting at the Camp Nelson National Cemetery: Clem - 119th U.S. Colored Infantry
The 119th and the 5th were organized at Camp Nelson. The 121st was organized at Maysville. All may be your relatives. Follow Lee's instructions and you will be in for a treat. Good luck and keep in touch. Bennie
