He was author of "Eleven Men of West Point, published in the April l956 issue of The Negro History Bulletin. I guess eleven makes for a longer article than just one.

On same theme: just learned of a new book on story of black Midshipmen at Naval Academy: Robert Schneller, Breaking the Color Barrier: The U.S. Naval Academy"s First Black Midshipmen (New York University Press).

My knowledge of this topic is slim to none (the Old Army is my meat, plus I start to turn green anywhere near water)), but I recall first black appointment to Naval Academy came in early l870s--at about time first blacks were nonimated to West Point.
Over this past week-end I ran across some articles in New York Times (ca early l890s) re other blacks headed to Naval Academy. If anyone out there wants these references/ecitations, just message me on this site or at thomasdphillip@aol.com
