Greetings family,
Long time no post.
I was reading my genealogy Bible, "Finding a Place Called Home" by Dr. Woodtor and found yet another very enlightening tip. Dr. Woodtor says that there are records kept by the National Archives in D.C. called the "Slave Rolls". These are lists of slaves (by name) that plantation owners had hired out to work for the Confederate army during the Civil War. I called the military reference desk and left a message today. To access the rolls, Dr. Woodtor says that you must know the county and slave owners names that you are interested in looking up.
The 1860 census shows no slave names, but the Slave Rolls could be a way to fill in that gap. Anyone here have any experience/luck with this resource?
