BUFFALO SOLDIERS HONORED
By DANA NAIM
WEST POINT — Joseph Dunn looked across the athletic field where horses once ran, and he recalled his days at the U.S. Military Academy, an enlisted man teaching the cadets horsemanship.
"Those were our barracks up on that hill," said Dunn, 79, of Spring Valley, as he pointed to the buildings in the distance. "And this field was filled with horses back then. All this stuff is different now."
Dunn, who was stationed at West Point until 1953, returned yesterday to reunite with fellow Buffalo Soldiers at their 42nd annual memorial ceremony. The 9th and 10th U.S. Cavalry regiments, nicknamed "Buffalo Soldiers," were made up of black soldiers.
