Seeking Information on the 9th Calvary in 1900

Hello Everyone~

While researching some of my 3rd great grandmother, I found one of her brothers, Edward Bannister (Banister as listed in the 1900 census) in Arizona, Pinal, Fort Grant. The heading on the census page states that the men were in the 9th Calvary. I am trying to learn more about this group and so far have only come up with the information on the 9th during the Civil War. Does anyone have any suggestions on book titles or websites I may check out to learn more? In 1910 he was stationed at Fort Lawton (no longer a base) here in Washington State.

As a side note, would I go through NARA to obtain draft cards for an individual (not the above person, a collateral ancestor from another line--smile).

Thanks for your time and help.
