USCT Civil War Memorial & Museum
If you are in the neighborhood of U Street and Vermont (1925 Vermont), in Washington D.C., I suggest stopping by the African American Civil War Museum. I was there this past Wednesday and I was happy that I could leave my family history and genealogy with them. It took me seven or eight years to compile the information. My initial visit was a few years ago when they were in their temporary location on U Street. On this trip like the first, I also went to the statue honoring the U.S. Colored Troops but this time I found the names of my two great great grand uncles.
While I was in the museum, it happened. The person at the desk engaged me about genealogy. I could have talked all day but I didn't want to bore her.
I almost forgot, they gave me a certificate for each relative.
