WWII Navy Service Records - Additional Information

I have 2 relatives that served in the US Navy during WW2. I have the separation documents for one and the document includes the name of his ship [USS Fort Marion] at the time of separation. The USS Fort Marion was launched in May 1945 and my relative separated from the Navy in March 1947. Ancestry.com has a record of his service on this ship, as well. He enlisted in 1942 and the separation document has in the Remarks section "Asiatic Pacific American Area Victory" He is deceased now but I am quite sure that he served on other ships during the period from 1942 until 1945 and I believe that he was in combat in the Pacific.

Is there a way that I can find out any more details on his service record?

I am sending for the separation documents for my other relative and I hope it has more information.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Gwen
