Re: "My Buddy" Respect for the 761st

Thanks to all who contributed to this link. Like others, I found it while searching for the words to this song. My brother and I used to march in Memorial and Veteran's Day Parades in Pittsburgh with the Sons of the American Legion. The Memorial Day parade would end in Allegheny cemetary for a ceremony. We were young, and had to stand there at attention -- or our best version of -- while we very quietly snickered at some of the guest speakers. Then a woman would come on stage every year and sing this song acapello. I can still see what she looks like, but I could only remember the words, "My Buddy ... " and nothing more. We were young and stupid and laughed because we didn't really understand. My brother retired from the Air Force a few years ago, and I will retire in 45 days. I've had the honor of talking to so many incredible veterans who sacrificed so much, who came before me, and now I understand. I was at two Memorial Day services this weekend, and I couldn't help but think about this song. It has been on my mind since then. It brought a tear to my eye. To my fellow veterans, I apologize for not understanding the true meaning behind this song so many years ago.
