Alabama Adjutant General Records, 1861-1866

Now available on microfilm at the Alabama Dept. of Archives and History in Montgomery is the following series of records: Alabama Adjutant General, Administrative files, 1861-1866. The records are available on 1 microfilm reel, SG006471, Reel 02, and may be requested at the Research Room on the first floor.

Scope and Content Note: This series consists primarily of
correspondence addressed to the Adjutant and Inspector General of
Alabama. Also included are circulars, Military orders and roster
information. Topics include the activities of various militia units
from throughout Alabama. These materials document primarily military
affairs on the home front during the Civil War. There are some
documents from immediately after the war. A large number of the items are addressed to Hugh P. Watson, Joel Riggs, W. H. (William Henry) Fowler and George Goldthwaite. Of particular interest is an order that creates the 3rd Alabama Infantry out of various independent companies on April 27, 1861.
