"90 years ago a whole generation had their lives, loves, hopes and dreams annihilated on the battlefields of the First World War. Lost Generation offers an opportunity to turn those long lists of names of the fallen back into real people with real desires and potential, to understand their world and celebrate their astonishing stories.
"The Lost Generation website will contain a searchable database of the UK’s First World War memorials and their inscriptions. Our aim is to complete the list of First World War memorials in the UK as an enduring national record, with missing information and personal mementos being added to our database by the public.
"The website also contains articles on the Battle of the Somme and the First World War, particularly highlighting the effect on individuals and sections of society, as well as the worldwide impact of the conflict. It also offers a guide to researching your family history, with particular information about tracking the stories of relatives who were in the services and may have died in combat. And watch out for the 3D tour of a typical trench, an blow-by-blow interactive timeline of the Battle of the Somme, and a competition to win a Video iPod.
"So why not bookmark this page and come back on 14 November when the site will be live."
