Up to this very day, people who are Black and Indian (with or without white mixed in) are denied their Indian heritage by whites and so-called Indian Nations themselves; called liars; said to be trying to deny their African heritage by claiming their Indian heritage; etc..
The same thing went on in the past in so many cases where white people were concerned, particularly the Dawes period..
