I would agree also the he is the slaveowners son. I have a similar situation with my gr grandfather, but have not found any documentation yet that will prove it. My gr grandfather was Mulatto, also. But the White West and Black West from my Township have the same DNA that matched.. 25 markers out of 25 were a perfect match.
