Re: In The 1850-1860 Census
In Response To: In The 1850-1860 Census ()

I have been paying more attention to the various marks and can see that in some places, only females are checked off, others, people who are laborers are marked, etc..
But that still does not explain where this one Mulatto family was in 1860 who were there in 1850 and 1870..They did not move away and then move back..But they are not showing up in the search I do on their names..
It also doesn't explain the LACK of Free Colored or Mulatto people that should be in a place..
The only thing I can do is start with page one of any given census and look at every page...If there is no B W or M for the whole census, then I'll know something isn't right for sure..
I also need to find out how the Free Negro Heads of Families was put together from 1830..So far, I have checked only two specific names on the list I collected from that site against the 1830 census, and both names are there in the right states, and both names are the ONLY ones showing in that state at that time..That is, there are only those two people with those two names..and they are both listed under Free White..
