Don't take an odd discrepency as necessarily a problem. Remember, you are dealing with a French/creole speaking person in all likelihood. The Civil War claims (or reparation claims) were often handled by those who required interpreters. I have an ancestor whose reparation claim was denied because he was a "French citizen" despite the fact that his ancestors had been in Louisiana for generations. Even outside of this context screw-ups happen. If memory serves, Hebert's report of the marriage of Valerien Ozenne refers to the wife as the daughter of Marie Jeanne. I've seen the original record.
