Francisco / Frank Cisco....Angolan?

I am aware of a preference for attributing Angolan ancestry to any 17th century person of color with a Latin name. In the absence of any existing written record in confirmation of the Angolan theory, it is well to examine those early records which do exist. One such man of color with a Latin name was "Francisco the Indian", also identified as "Frank Cisco the Indian". While it may be debated whether Francisco was from the Portuguese colony at Goan or an American Indian from a Spanish colony, Angola is a far less likely possibility.

Another interesting example from the Eastern Shore is that of an "Indian" named "Jack of Morrocco". As for the Driggus family, I have seen no proof that this family was Angolan, nor have I seen proof that they were not. The salient point is the wide diversity of unexplored ethnicities which contributed to the diverse group of people known as Free Persons of Color.
