I am looking for more information on the abovenamed individual - I have found him in the NC State Archives land records. The surname is spelled 'Sweet' in these records. He applied for 100 acres of land on the Little Pee Dee River in 1751 and the grant was issued Dec 23, 1754. He is listed as a son of William Sweat in Free African-Americans, born 1707 in VA. Gregg says this family came to SC with Gideon Gibson c1731. I would be grateful for any help anyone could give!
