Re: Solomon Bruce and Barney Redman

Marlene and All:

I'm writing this back to you Marlene on this web side because I came upon another lead into the Bruce/Redman line from Washington, PA. Again, on my mother's side of the family (which indeed has surprising aspects), there is a link to the Bruce family directly from Annie McGruder, where I found Roxanne Bruce, granddaughter to Annie. Roxanne Bruce married James Dillard of the same location, and they had one child, a daughter, now living in Western Pennsylvania. There also is a living link in the McGruder family remaining in this area. I wouldn't mention there names without permission from both. When I make the living connections, and with their permission, I will publish this to this web site.

My individual link is through my Lucas/Cox/Waters branch great grandmother Lydia Catherine Water/Walters, all from Loudoun County, VA. It goes without saying I really do need that month long trip to the Commonwealth of Virginia (sigh).

Another item on the Bruce family taken from The Washington PA Daily Reporter, Saturday, May 23, 1935, Page 11 in the Afro-American Note:, "...Edward Bruce of St. Paul, Minnesota, a former Trinity High School star was in Washington the past week being called here by the death of his brother, the late George Vincent Bruce." This information was extracted from the Microfilm located in the genealogy section of The Citizens' Library, Washington, PA, from the reference librarian for use in African American research. The writer of the Afro-American Notes was our beloved Miss Evvie Brooks, deceased many years ago, who loved her community so much she alone preserved years of similar notes, thank goodness!

I continue to believe all of those with links to Southern Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, and parts of West Virginia and Virginia should have a 3-day convention and for once talk about our extended families. Anyone in favor of this, I would suggest contact Robert Lett, who has been on this web side.
