When I visiting Virginia, I had to opportunity to stop by the State Library in Richmond. What I remember most are those yellowed strips of paper with a description of colored people. Sometimes the description was of a black or negro father and an "indian" wife or daughter. I couldn't make heads nor tails about what I was seeing. There are every kind of combination in those secured documents. I have to go back and look at them again.
