What I always found interesting when I read this this article is that although Annette Gordon-Reed in her book Thomas Jefferson and Sally Hemings and American Controversy states, " In what Brodie called the "final Irony" of Sally Hemming's life, she and her sons were listed as white by the census taker in 1830." This is true, however as you will note Sally & her children all show up here in 1833.........I believe you are always "known" in your community.
