Rodney,
I totally agree with you. I have read Jack Forbes's book cover to cover. It is very important for people who research free people of color to take Dr. Forbes findings into consideration. There are reasons why so many of are ancestors are remembered by our families as Natives although labeled fpc, free negroes, blacks, etc. All of us can't be make this stuff up. I also know that many people do not accept being called African Americans today for many of these reasons outlined in Dr. Forbes's book. I personally feel the term does not reflect who I am and dislike using the term to describe myself or any of the people I came from. I definitely believe Dr. Forbes's book should be read by all who consider themselves researchers of free people of color whatever race or ethnicity you may consider yourself today. In reality, all people who believe in race as something legit should read Forbes.
