I'm thrilled to have found this forum. I have traced my ancestry to Albert Asher Free Inhabitant of Fairfax, Country of Culpeper lliving with John A. Pendleton, Atty in the 1850 Census. I have found Wiliam Asher, free negro, in the 1810 Census with three other free persons. I have only my speculation as to a relationship between Albert Asher and William Asher and am now in search of any information, documentation etc. about these individuals. I have not been able to find a Negro Register for free Negro persons in Culpeper. I would very much appreciate any information anyone could supply re: African American Asher family, Free Negroes in Culpeper, any oral history about the Ashers, African American and White.
